The Glór Sessions:

Glór meaning, voice, sound or noise, I named it this as I wanted to have an Irish title and it is a fair description of the night, I also want to try and relearn my own language, and jump at the chance to have someone recite or sing as gaeilge.

I have been running it since June, beforehand it was just a music night, but I brought in poetry, drama, comedy and pretty much anything goes... and I will give most folks a chance, I book people in though to make sure there is a certain standard on the night, and then throw it open to the floor after if we have time we usually do and I feel it is important to get everyone involved.

The night has been around for close on 20 years and you name a young famous Irish musician and they probably played here, from Damien Dempsey, Paddy Casey, Damien Rice amongst others.

While the bar is a bit of a spit and sawdust place I love it as it is the quintessential Dublin Bar in my opinion and I have my first pint there when I was 14 (not that i should be saying this!) so that just says it all. We have had in excess of 100 musicians and 50 poets pass through the doors since I took over in 7 months, some award winners and on their way to make a big name for themselves and others on their first steps, but we all treat each other with respect and there is an open atmosphere each week everyone trying to help each other out.
